Bombay Sandwich

Jump to recipe...

Bombay sandwich is such a popular street food in India. I always miss the different types of street food when I come back to the states because it is just sooooo damn good. I try to recreate some of my fave street foods at home. And this Bombay sandwich recreation is just SOOOOO good, it will make you feel like your in an Indian street corner. This sandwich is my favorite type of layers 😜

There is a place in Baroda, Gujarat that has the BEST Bombay sandwich. I’m from Ahmedabad (the BEST place ever) but my husband’s family is from Baroda. When we went wedding shopping in Baroda, I had this particular Bombay sandwich and it honestly was life changing. And the best part…there’s minimal cooking involved, perfect for a quick lunchtime meal. If you’re feeling extra lazy like I sometimes do, you can buy the pre-boiled beets or even microwave the potatoes. It’s a quick and easy way to make this mouthwatering dish. Anyways, hope you all will enjoy this delicious street food in the comfort of your own home.🤗

Stay happy, stay hungry!

Prep time: 10 minutesCook time: 5 minutesTotal time: 15 minutesMakes: 5-6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack bread, crust cut off
  • 1 potato, boiled and thinly sliced
  • 1 beet, boiled and thinly sliced
  • 1 large tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1 large cucumber, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup cilantro green chutney
  • ¼ cup Amul butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup shredded Amul cheese
  • 1-2 tbsp chaat masala
  • Maggi hot and sweet sauce (optional)

Directions:

  1. Take 3 slices of bread on a cutting board. Spread butter on all 3 slices. Layer the bottom bread with potatoes and tomato slices and then sprinkle some chaat masala.
  2. Spread green chutney on the middle bread slice and place that on top of the potatoes and tomatoes. Then spread more green chutney on the topside of it. Place some beet slices, cucumber slices, sprinkle some chaat masala and close the sandwich with the last buttered bread slice.
  3. Shred Amul cheese on top of the sandwich. Sprinkle more of the chaat masala and top it with the Maggi sauce if using.
  4. Repeat these steps for the rest of the sandwiches and ENJOY!

Notes:

  • I use Pepperidge Farm white sandwich bread.
  • You can also use sandwich masala instead of chaat masala.
  • You can also top it off with Sriracha sauce or ketchup instead of the maggi sauce.
